About me
Conny Gruber is an ethnomusicologist at the Phonogrammarchiv, Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, responsible for publications and editions. They earned their doctorate at the University of Vienna on the interdependency of gender within dance spaces in southwest Madagascar. Gruber’s research and teaching are in the fields of ethnomusicology, dance, gender and queer studies, memory and the recirculation of sound recordings from a standpoint of engaged pedagogy and decolonial critique. Their projects include the Phonogrammarchiv online Edition Series The Complete Historical Collections (1899–1950), Reverse Ethnomusicology (mdw & PHA, 2024–2026) and “Colonial collections in the Phonogrammarchiv (ÖAW)” within the thematic platform ÖAW kolonial (2024–2026).
