About me
Ashley Dequilla is an artist-filmmaker and archivist specializing in Philippine ethnographic and diasporic collections based in Chicago, Illinois. She holds an MFA in Moving Image and is completing her MA in Art History from the University of Illinois Chicago. Her efforts in community archiving received National Film Preservation Foundation awards in 2024 and 2025. She speaks widely and has presented her work at the Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Moving Image, Museo Nacional de Antropología (Mexico City), SOAS University of London, University of the Philippines Film Institute, Field Museum of Natural History, and Chicago History Museum among many others. She is a co-founder of the Coalition for Collective Stewardship of Philippine Ancestral Remains, a stakeholder network of scholars, activists, and cultural workers invested in thoughtful repatriation processes. Our efforts establish a shared mission of transparency and accountability with all institutions holding Philippine ancestral remains worldwide, facilitating pathways for consultation and return for descendant communities.
