The final years of Soviet occupied Lithuania, where Western rock music was censored, a generation found freedom through music by smuggling vinyls, listening to outlawed radio stations and creating underground music. Simply owning, buying or listening to international records became powerful acts of resistance. Chronologically, the film follows the evolution of this underground music scene through the intimate memories of key figures such as Andrius Mamontovas (Foje), Šarūnas Mačiulis (Poliarizuoti Stiklai), and the first Lithuanian punks Minds Disorders and others. Through archival footage, newly filmed material, and an immersive soundtrack, this personal and cinematic debut celebrates music as a vital force of resilience, identity and human connection. At once nostalgic and urgent, the film captures the raw joy and courage of cultural defiance while reflecting on Lithuania’s independence in 1990. For today’s viewer, it reveals how fragile freedom truly is and how absurd and oppressive censorship can be, reminding us that the fight for creative and personal liberty is never truly over.
