This presentation examines the Archivo de la Palabra at the Biblioteca y Hemeroteca Puertorriqueña of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, as a case of archival resilience developed under conditions of institutional and fiscal vulnerability. The project focuses on the preservation of audio recordings that document cultural, intellectual, and public life, including materials related to Preguntas de Buena Fe, a television program created in 1969, a significant year in Puerto Rico’s political history marked by the transition to a new government administration.

Amid Puerto Rico’s prolonged fiscal crisis, recurring budget reductions, and the structural challenges facing the University of Puerto Rico, the preservation of this sound archive has required strategic planning, collaboration, and adaptive responses. A key component has been interinstitutional cooperation with the Audiovisual Media Archive, part of the Film, Radio, and Television Unit in the School of Communication and Information at the University of Puerto Rico, which has helped sustain the project and strengthen its continuity. This case highlights how archival preparedness can emerge through local partnerships, technical support, and shared stewardship to preserve vulnerable recorded heritage.
