Two of Linda's three MIAP internship sites experienced floods at various points in their history, and past student cohorts have assisted in disaster recovery at other audiovisual archives. Linda's experience and curiosity combined into her thesis, a project that ultimately showed that the valuable stories of these collections were at risk of complete loss. However, part of her findings also showed that in the wake of disaster recovery, small community archives used the negative situation as a catalyst for institutional change they had been wanting. Now, these archives have more robust systems in place for future disasters, have digitized more materials, and have changed how they provide programming and materials access to patrons. The appendix of Linda's thesis culminated in a printable zine, which institutions can turn to as a condensed source of information from the thesis and as a place to fill in their own disaster plans and turn to as a resource in the wake of a crisis, should they need it. This zine is an attempt to democratize this critical information, providing community archives with a valuable resource that is not behind an institution or paywall. By sharing these experiences, these empowering messages, and these resources, all community and small archives can benefit.
